About PARC
PARC, part of the Discovery Addiction Centers family, is Houston’s premier drug and alcohol rehab center for adults and teens. Our main campus, which offers both inpatient and intensive outpatient (IOP) programs, is located in Houston, Texas. We also provide effective, measurement-based IOP and partial hospitalization (PHP) care at our facility in The Woodlands.
PARC brings its award-winning experience and depth of expertise to the forefront of alcohol and drug treatment. We do this by incorporating a unique method of measuring our clients’ progress. By examining 27 distinct wellness indicators, we can meet your needs throughout your entire treatment journey, including after you graduate from our program.

Our Mission and Vision
The mission of PARC is to lead people adversely affected by alcohol and substance abuse and their families onto a path of hope, health, healing, and recovery. Our vision is to remain leaders in addiction recovery services by providing exceptional and innovative treatment as well as the tools and support needed for individuals and families to build lasting recovery one life at a time.
PARC’s History
PARC has a long history of helping individuals recover their lives from the disease of addiction.
In the 1990s, two well-recognized hospital systems joined forces to become the PARC Healthcare System. Other local hospitals were merged into PARC Healthcare System, including a free-standing substance abuse and psychiatric center called Spring Shadows Glen. Founded in 1982, Spring Shadows Glen was eventually relocated to the Texas Medical Center and renamed the “Prevention and Recovery Center,” commonly referred to today as PARC.
PARC thrived in our Texas Medical Center location, and within five years had outgrown the building. With a full census and lengthy waiting list, PARC was relocated to our current location on Gessner Road in Houston, just three miles north of I-10 in the Memorial City area.
Our campus is now three times the size of our former Medical Center location. In 2008, we opened an adolescent drug rehab center for teens ages 13 to 17. We also expanded our intensive outpatient program locations to include more communities in the Houston metro area.
PARC Today
Today, the PARC team treats thousands of patients each year. PARC offers all levels of care for the treatment of alcohol and drug problems. Each of our staff members brings a wealth of experience and compassion to PARC. Our expertise has received national recognition, and patients come to us from all around the country.

ValueOptions Signature Network 2014 National
PaRC is an official member of the ValueOptions Signature Network due to its high outcomes as well as meeting the rigorous standards that ValueOptions has set forth. Only a select few are chosen by their adherence to measurement-based best practices, individualized treatment, family services as well as a multidisciplinary approach to discharge planning which supports continuity of care.
The Joint Commission 2010 National Gold Seal Award
PaRC received The Joint Commission National “Gold Seal” Accreditation in 2010 for Behavioral Health Care. This award acknowledges PaRC’s services for improved accuracy of the identification of individuals served, offering a reduced risk of health care-associated infections, reconciling medications across the continuum of care, as well as being able to identify safety risks inherent in the individuals it serves.
The NAATP 2015 Quality Improvement Award
In 2015, PaRC was presented the James W. West, MD Quality Improvement Award in recognition of its Pain Recovery Program by National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers (NAATP). It was PaRC’s second time receiving the prestigious recognition, also doing so in 2011 for its Performance Improvement Program. The award recognizes PaRC’s body of work involving performance improvement and relating to four specific quality initiatives undertaken by staff.
Prevention and Recovery Center Receives Achievement Award
PaRC became the first facility in Texas and the southern U.S. to receive the National Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse 2010 Organizational Achievement Award, recognizing excellence in addiction treatment programs.
