12-Step Programming at New Hope Ranch
The 12-step philosophy is a world-renowned method to drug and alcohol addiction treatment. There are 12 principles for individuals to learn about and implement into their lives, such as being honest with yourself, finding faith and making amends with others who have been hurt by your addiction. At New Hope Ranch, located right outside of Austin, you can find a variety of ways to incorporate the 12-step program into your individualized treatment plan. Let it be the foundation for your overall recovery.
We provide time and space in the evening for patient-led 12-step meetings or other types of support groups. We make sure all patients at New Hope Ranch know their meeting and group options and what they can expect. Along with the 12-step philosophy, patients can also learn about the concepts and structures of:
Alcoholics Anonymous (AA): This group helped originate the 12-step program in the 1930s.
Narcotics Anonymous (NA): This group was created from AA.
SMART Recovery: This is a group that stands for “Self-Management and Recovery Training” and is offered at New Hope Ranch. The science-based approach uses cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and motivational methods to help those in recovery.
Celebrate Recovery: This is a Christian-based 12-step program that started from the ministry at Saddleback Church in California.
Refuge Recovery: This is the New Hope Ranch virtual support program for those getting treatment at our facility.
For groups like Celebrate Recovery, AA and NA, the New Hope Ranch staff will help find a telehealth meeting within the area. Not only do we want to provide you with amazing support groups at the ranch, but we also want to give you access to other groups, so you have all the chances to recover successfully.
Stars & Stripes Program: Serving Those Who Serve
When an individual is has put their country first or is in a first responder occupation—from a paramedic or firefighter to public safety officer or emergency personnel—they commit to a job that is truly selfless. But for some, the stressors of the work or the past can become overwhelming, leaving individuals to turn to unhealthy ways of coping, like alcohol or drug use.
The Stars & Stripes program at New Hope Ranch is tailored to help veterans and first responders on the road to recovery from substance use disorder, as well as specifically reintegrate veterans into their community.
Treatment for our military members and first responders is trauma-focused and customized. Our program provides a combination of one-on-one therapy and life skills building as well as small group sessions. Our patients frequently tell us that going through addiction recovery with like-minded individuals is a powerful and enlightening part of their rehab journey.
New Hope Ranch works with Tricare and VA insurance. We proudly partner with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs as a provider in the Community Care Network (CCN) and provide services to veterans with TriWest insurance and a referral/consult from VA Houston, VA McAllen, VA Beaumont, VA El Paso, VA Dallas and VA San Antonio. Clinical Therapies at New Hope Ranch
The clinical team at New Hope Ranch does not believe that “one size fits all” when it comes to getting clean. Rather, we focus on your individual needs so that you get optimal clinical care during your stay. By following the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) guidelines, we make sure treatment is appropriate for each patient. This includes looking at your medical, social and mental health needs, along with any trauma experienced in the past or withdrawal potential. With the ASAM criteria as our guide, our team can focus on different facets that help us understand all social and environmental issues you may face—getting to know any challenges or boundaries that may disrupt your chances to recover will allow us to assign the appropriate long-term care outside of treatment. In the end, your lifelong recovery success is our success. Here are the clinical therapies you’ll find during programming:
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT): Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) helps individuals understand the necessity to live with their negative emotions instead of attempting to push them away. ACT focuses on what values you have, and it provides a guide to help with moving toward your values instead of staying in the problem. ACT is known to have helped many individuals struggling with substance use disorder achieve sobriety.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Since the early 1920s, CBT has been researched and practiced as an effective type of psychotherapy for those struggling with drug or alcohol addiction. This type of talk therapy has been looked at as the umbrella over dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), among others. The process—guided by a trained therapist—helps you reframe negative thoughts and change how you respond to challenges, particularly if you need to work through trauma. When used in conjunction with other treatment methods, CBT is an extremely helpful tool that can serve you for your entire life..
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): DBT is a highly effective cognitive behavioral therapy that helps you transform negative thought patterns into positive behavior changes. It can help you better manage your emotions through developing skills in mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness. The process teaches you to manage the difficult emotions—many times because of trauma that you have faced—which may have led you to use drugs and alcohol as a coping mechanism.
